Internet and app-based interventions

Smartphones, laptops, tablets, and similar devices are everyday companions for most people. Therefore, it's not surprising that digitalization is also impacting psychotherapy. Online training, apps, social media, and videoconference therapy are increasingly being used in the treatment of mental health conditions. A common term in research is internet- and mobile-based interventions (IMIs).

IMIs offer the opportunity to closely support patients in their daily lives and help them transfer therapeutic content into their everyday routines. Therapeutically guided IMIs have proven particularly effective, as patients receive therapeutic guidance and support when using these tools (Carlbring et al., 2018; Baumeister et al., 2014; Andersoon & Cuijpers, 2009; Johansson & Anderson, 2012; Richards & Richardson, 2012).
