tDCS as an augmentation of psychotherapy for patients with depression
Our research group investigates the psychophysiological processes underlying mental disorders. In collaboration with the Psychophysiology research group, we aim to utilize paradigms established in anxiety research to examine depression at the neuronal level. A promising approach is transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) – a non-invasive method of neuronal modulation. Through tDCS, we hope to gain a better understanding of disorder-specific neuronal processes and also increase the effectiveness of psychotherapy by stimulating relevant brain regions.
Eva-Lotta Brakemeier is involved in a multicenter study funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) investigating the synergistic effect of cognitive behavioral therapy and transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) in the treatment of depression (see Bajbouj et al., 2017; Aust*, Brakemeier* et al., 2022).
